The Bang Bang Caravel 1
Kicking off the four-part series, the first Bang Bang Caravel event presented a jam-packed programme featuring pirate skiffle band Swampy Tonk, with their blend of rockabilly, blues and country; Ōtautahi Christchurch rapper Dino Roc; the musical collaboration Tonton Macoutes, featuring Fred Woodhouse, Tim Gentles and Will Gresson; and the comedy segment Late Night Campfire, from Mark Scott and Steven Lyons.
The Bang Bang Caravel was an immersive, multi-disciplinary series, presented as part of the Auckland Fringe Festival across four consecutive Saturdays, open to audiences on a koha (donation) basis. Taking inspiration from the classic variety show format, the Caravel featured a wonderfully strange collection of original theatre, live music, short film, visual art and unpredictable performances—all described as being “as curious as the sea”.
