Newton Gully Screen Society at Wine Cellar 3
This free film event opened with Bob Fosse's classic Broadway-to-screen musical, Cabaret (1972), followed by a screening of Tsai Ming-Liang's surreal, sexually explicit musical comedy, The Wayward Cloud (2005); a pairing that explored different approaches to the musical genre.
For its 2008 Spring season, the Newton Gully Screen Society offered a series of six free film screenings, presented every second Wednesday in the back room of The Wine Cellar, off Karangahape Rd. Organised in collaboration with The Dust Palace, this initiative continued NGSS' mission to bring a range of cinematic experiences to the public, building on the earlier Cinema Obscura events held at Cross St Studios, curated by Sean Monro.
