X 1

X was an exhibition of experimental artworks by AUT Year 2 Visual Arts students, that featured “goopy sculpture, composite portraits and compulsive drawings.” This presentation at Cross St Studios formed one part of a larger, concurrent initiative that also displayed student work across central Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland—at Te Wai Ngutu Kākā Gallery (formerly St Pauls Street Gallery) and the Dadley Building.

X was the second of five exhibitions in a three-year partnership between Cross St Studios and AUT. Through this collaboration, students gained the unique opportunity to showcase their work in a public context, connecting with a wider arts community and gaining exposure free from the financial pressure of commercial galleries.
