ONE NIGHT STAND
For one night only, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland artist Samuel Montgomery exhibited Holga images taken during his time in Japan. Featuring evocative urban moments, brightly lit vending machines and candid portraits, the show presented a candid, lo-fi look at Japanese street life within the square format and soft focus typical of the Holga camera.
Montgomery, a fine arts graduate from Unitec who completed postgraduate studies at Elam School of Fine Arts, uses photography as a spontaneous extension of his wider creative practice. His work often involves exploring immersive environments, collaborative furniture making and crafting pedestals for artists, showcasing his versatility across conceptual and practical modes of art.
