STRING UTOPIA?
The Committee's second show at Cross St Studios presented a bold evening dedicated to redefining string performance.
Featuring violinist/composer Johnny Chang and special guests Charlotte Rose, James Gardner and Yid-ee Goh, the programme intentionally spanned canonical and contemporary sounds, turning the classical instrument into a vehicle for experimental sound.
The repertoire included pieces by avant-garde masters such as Pauline Oliveros, James Tenney, Peter Ablinger, Jürg Frey, Serge Prokofiev, and an Auckland premiere of work by New Zealand composer Samuel Holloway.
