For one week, Cross St Studios hosted the Grindhouse Poster Art Competition exhibition, a collaboration between the MGM Channel and Groove Guide magazine that challenged artists to capture the raw, exploitation aesthetic of the recently popularised Grindhouse film genre.

Hugely popular among film fans, the event lead to a follow-up competition in 2009 at Plaything Gallery, judged by film critic Ant Timpson and broadcaster Matt Heath (Back of the Y).
