The Bang Bang Caravel 4
The Bang Bang Caravel finale was a grand extravaganza of imaginative acts from the wider Cross St Studios community, capped off with an afterparty hosted by Dj Two Fingers.
The night's programme featured In The Streets, a hip-hop dance-off led by Gina Jonus, based on the works of Keith Haring; a live operatic piece by Erikka Lindsay with piano accompaniment; a multimedia work combining sewing machines and video from Wauckland (Rachel Ruckstuhl-Mann and Naressa Gamble); and an experimental solo performance by Rose Rowan.
Other acts included a collaboration between local group Growl with the Literatti and Scotland’s Texture; original music from Phil Dryson; and an electro-rap performance by Smoking Hot Bitch Fight featuring Imogen Taylor and Flick (Matt Brennan).
The Bang Bang Caravel was an immersive, multi-disciplinary series, presented as part of the Auckland Fringe Festival across four consecutive Saturdays, open to audiences on a koha (donation) basis. Taking inspiration from the classic variety show format, the Caravel featured a wonderfully strange collection of original theatre, live music, short film, visual art and unpredictable performances—all described as being “as curious as the sea”.
